The Creative Curriculum for Preschool

TOURING GUIDE

The Rahway Public Schools Early Childhood Department utilizes The Creative Curriculum® to provide young learners with a developmentally appropriate, engaging, and purposeful preschool experience. This comprehensive curriculum supports children as they build the foundational skills, knowledge, and dispositions they need for success in school and beyond.

The Creative Curriculum takes a whole-child approach, recognizing that young children learn best through meaningful experiences, exploration, purposeful play, and positive relationships. Teachers create thoughtfully planned learning environments and provide hands-on experiences that encourage children to investigate, ask questions, communicate their ideas, solve problems, and develop independence. The curriculum also supports individual differences by allowing educators to observe each child's interests, strengths, and developmental needs and use that information to guide instruction.

A key strength of The Creative Curriculum is its emphasis on intentional teaching. Educators balance child-initiated exploration with carefully planned learning experiences, helping children develop across all areas of development—including social-emotional, physical, language, literacy, mathematics, science, social studies, and the arts. Through ongoing observation and documentation, teachers monitor children's progress and use authentic assessment information to individualize instruction and partner with families.

The Creative Curriculum also aligns with the New Jersey Preschool Teaching and Learning Standards, supporting the state's vision for high-quality preschool programs. Its emphasis on developmentally appropriate practices, learning through play, intentional instruction, inclusive learning environments, and ongoing assessment complements the standards' expectations for children's growth and learning. Through this alignment, Rahway Public Schools educators can provide experiences that foster children's curiosity, creativity, communication, critical thinking, problem-solving, and social-emotional development while addressing the knowledge and skills outlined by New Jersey.

Ultimately, The Creative Curriculum provides Rahway's youngest learners with a strong foundation for lifelong learning. By combining purposeful play, responsive teaching, meaningful learning experiences, and family engagement, the Early Childhood Department creates classrooms where every child is encouraged to explore, discover, connect, and grow.
